Interim Fire Chief  and Assistant Chief Appointed

NACOGDOCHES, TX – The City of Nacogdoches has appointed Division Chief- Fire Marshal Michael “Mike” Brown as Interim Fire Chief. Chief Mike Brown will step into the Fire Chief position that was most recently held by Chief Keith Kiplinger. Kiplinger was appointed by City Council as the Interim City Manager for the City of Nacogdoches effective February 10th.

Chief Brown has a long history with the City of Nacogdoches, beginning in his high school years when he worked as a seasonal laborer for the City Parks and Recreation Department. Chief Brown has been a full-time employee with the City of Nacogdoches since 1999, and has served the Fire Department as a Firefighter, Driver-Engineer, Fire Captain, and most recently, as Division Chief and Fire Marshal. Through the City’s active involvement with the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), Brown has helped fellow Texans outside of Nacogdoches in times of need by serving as the TIFMAS East Branch Coordinator, assisting with statewide response to natural disasters, wildfires, and other emergencies. Chief Brown is married to Larissa Philpot-Brown who is the Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation President and CEO.

“I am honored and excited to lead and work with the phenomenal men and women that make up Nacogdoches Fire and Rescue, to continue to serve the great community of Nacogdoches, and to carry on our tradition of excellence as instilled by Fire Chief Kiplinger,” said Interim Chief Brown.

    Division Chief Michael Self has been named interim Assistant Fire Chief for Nacogdoches Fire and Rescue. Assistant Chief Self has been with the City of Nacogdoches for 20 years and most recently served as Division Chief over Training and Safety. He is also an integral part of our disaster response team serving as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Nacogdoches.
