(Nacogdoches, TX) Last week City officials opted to temporarily halt operations at the Grease Treatment facility, located at the City’s Wastewater treatment plant. “This was a cautionary step to ensure we were in full compliance after receiving notification from TCEQ that we had issues with our permit,” said City Engineer Steve Bartlett. After conversations between the City of Nacogdoches and officials from TCEQ in Austin and Beaumont, officials have determined that the City’s Grease Treatment facility is operating well within the requirements of Municipal Solid Waste permit and has resumed normal operations. The Grease treatment facility currently accepts waste from numerous haulers and is the only facility of its type in the deep east Texas area. “We are thankful to have our unit back up online and fully operational, so that our customers are not further affected by this issue” said Bartlett. City officials will be required to submit a permit modification due to an addition to the treatment process designed to enhance the quality of the discharge from the facility, and address any issues from the TCEQ inspection report. City officials have notified all waste haulers that normal operations have resumed.
