The primary purpose of the Nacogdoches Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) is to promote public safety and reduce hazards to life and property. Chief Mike Brown serves the Nacogdoches Fire Department as Fire Marshal.  The Primary duties of the FMO are fire/arson investigations and ensuring the safety of life and property through oversight and enforcement of model Fire and Building codes.  Chief Brown and shift investigators work together to determine the cause and origin of each explosion, building fire and/or vehicle fire within the City whose cause is not immediately known.  They may also assist the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies with cause and origin investigations when requested. Fire Marshal Investigators are dual-certified as licensed firefighters and Texas peace officers.

In addition, the Fire Marshal's Office conducts background investigations for department candidates and assists with professional standards investigations
